Accessibility

Cinema São Jorge has the issue of Accessibility at the top of its priorities: with regard to access and circulation in our space, as well as with regard to moments in the programming, which we want to be more inclusive.

At the front of the cinema there is a parking space for people with disabilities, immediately next to the Gira bicycle dock.

At the main entrance, the cinema access staircase has an access platform for people with reduced mobility. The same applies to all public access areas of São Jorge, fully equipped and accessible with platforms, ramps and places inside the rooms for these same people. There are also accessible toilets on the ground floor.

In terms of agenda, two formats aimed at enhancing accessibility and inclusion began to be tested:

1. • The Relaxed Sessions (tested at the Monstra and Doclisboa festivals) which in practice are theater, dance or music sessions that take place in a more informal, welcoming atmosphere and with more tolerance with regard to movement and noise in the audience;
   • The Audio Description Sessions, premiered at Doclisboa 2018 and aimed at visually impaired audiences, allowing them to enjoy the cinema program in a festival context.

1. Cinema São Jorge is also studying the possibility of expanding the offer of inclusive programming to Portuguese sign language, thinking about the needs of the deaf community.

*The Relaxed Sessions are aimed at all individuals and families who prefer an environment with reduced levels of anxiety, families with young children, people with sensory, social or communication disabilities; people with autism spectrum conditions (ASD), including Asperger syndrome, people with intellectual disabilities, children with attention deficit disorder, people with Down syndrome, people with Tourette syndrome, seniors in the early stages of dementia.
