No coração de Portugal serrano, o mês de Agosto multiplica as pessoas e as festas. Os migrantes regressam à terra, lançam foguetes, controlam fogos, cantam karaoke, atiram-se da ponte, caçam javalis, bebem cerveja, fazem filhos. Se o realizador e a equipa do filme tivessem ido directamente ao assunto, resistindo aos bailaricos, reduzir-se-ia a sinopse a: «Aquele Querido Mês de Agosto acompanha as relações sentimentais entre pai, filha e o primo desta, músicos numa banda de baile». Amor e música, portanto.
In the heart of Portugal, amid the mountains, the month of August is abuzz with people and festivities. Migrants return home, set off fireworks, fight fires, sing karaoke, leap off bridges, hunt wild boar, drink beer, and make babies. If the director and his crew had got straight to it instead of giving into the festivities, this synopsis would be shorter: «Our Beloved Month of August follows the affective relationship between a father and daughter, and the daughter’s cousin, all musicians in a dance band.» Love and music it is then.
